Snow Removal Plans and Early Bird Lots

This is the extensive plan for snow removal at BCSC. A shorter version has been shared with staff in various CO Communicators throughout the Fall and Winter. Please note, every weather event is unique in its timing and consistency. The guidelines below are general for this reason. Contact Buddy Faulkner if you have any questions!

Pre-Event Planning

Snow 1 Inch or Less

When snow accumulation level is 1” or less or ice is present:
a.   Facility Services (FS) may treat drive lanes, parking rows, and entrances with a salt mixture (concrete rated for sidewalks).
b.   Sidewalks and walkways may not be plowed. Custodial team members will maintain building sidewalks unless temperatures above 40 degrees for 48 hours after an inclement weather event.
c.   Campus will be monitored for drifts, snow crumbs, melting and refreeze, and other plow/salting related issues and address the needs.

Snow Between 1 and 2 Inches

When snow accumulation is between 1” to 2”
a.   Facility Services will possibly treat drive lanes and plow with a salt mixture (concrete rated for sidewalks) unless temperatures are above 40 degrees for 48 hours after the event.
b.   Custodial team members will shovel and treat sidewalks with an ice melt product unless temperatures are above 40 degrees for 48 hours after an event.
c.   Campus will be monitored for drifts, snow crumbs from plows, and other plow and salting related issues.

Snow 2 Inches or More

When snow accumulation is 2” or more:
a.   Facility Services will plow and possibly treat drive lanes, parking rows, and entrances with a salt mixture (concrete rated for sidewalks), unless temperatures above 40 degrees for 48 hours after the event.
b.   Custodial team members will shovel and treat sidewalks with an ice melt product unless temperatures are above 40 degrees for 48 hours after an inclement weather event.
c.   Sidewalks along streets, and paths to buildings may not be salted, but will be plowed where possible.
d.   Campus will be monitored for drifts, snow crumbs from plows, and other plow and salting related issues.

Priority Order

Truck Plowing: priority order:
1.   Entrances and drive lanes (to allow traffic flow)
2.   “Early Bird” teacher parking areas and parking spots closest to the building (working outward)
3.   Boost drive lanes and a few close parking spots/rows close to drop off
4.   Bus rows
5.   Any remaining rows determined to need plowing (athletic or supplemental rows)
Manual Snow Removal and or Salting: priority order
1.   Entrances to BOOST (primary/Secondary as it applies)
2.   Teacher entrance doors (All building levels)
3.   Student entry doors (All building levels)
Plowing, sidewalk shoveling and salting to be complete by (unless precipitation continues):
a.   BOOST: 5:30 am
b.   Middle schools: 6:00 am
c.   High school, Harris/ALPHA: 6:00 am
d.   Elementary schools: 7:00 am

Times above depend upon current weather conditions. Sidewalk or road salt should be applied to traffic areas in advance, so it is actively melting before foot traffic.

Early Bird Lots

Early Bird & (BOOST) PARKING ROWS: To be completed by 5:00 a.m.:
a. 310 Stadium - Door 1 row nearest door/Door 4 row nearest door
b. BHS - Door 1 south of flagpole
c. Brown - Door 1, 18 rows nearest door
d. BECC - Door 12 row nearest door
e. Cardinal - Door N Between main doors 1 and A
f. Delaware - Door N Between main doors 1 and A
g. Eagle - Door 1 row closest to doors
h. Lincoln - Playground Drive and South Side row near door C
i. Reagan - Playground Drive and North Side row near door 4, 8
j. White Lick - Door 8 spots outside Door 8
k. EMS - Door 3 Door 5 row in between
l. WMS - Door 1 row closest to doors
m. Harris - Staff Parking Row closest to Door 12
n. Crossroads - Door 1 and door 4

After/Before School Events

Custodial staff members will be directed by their supervisor of the event happening, start time, and end time event.

a. Staff members will be directed to clear areas of entry for the event up to 1hr prior to the start time. This will allow for ice melt to be fully activated and allow time to treat problematic areas before the arrival of our guest.
b. Staff members will be directed to clear areas of concern for the event up to 1hr prior to the end of time. This will allow for ice melt to be fully activated and allow time to treat problematic areas before the departure of our guest.
