Inclement Weather Plans 24-25

Hello BCSC families, teachers, & staff -

Each fall, we review and share BCSC's inclement weather procedures. The decision to open or close schools during inclement weather can create challenges for families. The safety of our students, staff and families continues to be our top priority as these decisions are made.  Please see the infographic below for more information about the methods and timing for weather-related decisions and communication.

  • Martin Luther King Jr. Day and Presidents Day will continue to be snow make-up days, if necessary. Should school be cancelled prior to the designated make-up holiday, parents may be given notice of two weeks or less that school will be in session.
  • When considering a delay to the start of school, we weigh many factors.  Each weather event is unique, and, in some cases, there could be an advantage when delaying to allow the weather to pass or road crews to better treat the roadways versus conditions worsening. In the event of a delay on Wednesday, schools will not release early. School delays due to cold weather are rare because temperatures do not sufficiently warm up during a two hour delay. In addition, many working parents have shared that delays create hardships for their families.
  • As you can see in the infographic, when a weather decision is made in the early morning, calls will be made at 5:30am.  With the first student bus pickup occurring just after 6am, this gives all families the information prior to sending students to the bus stop.  We adjusted this notification based on feedback from families.

Ultimately the decision is yours to make as a parent. If schools are open during inclement weather and you choose to have your child stay at home, the absence will be treated as excused, and any work missed can be made up.
