    Dyslexia Screening

In accordance with Indiana Code 20-35.5, Brownsburg Community Schools administers a comprehensive dyslexia screening to all students in grades K-2.  The assessment tools we utilize include:

    • Decoding-Encoding Screener for Dyslexia (DESD)
    • Arkansas Rapid Naming Screener (AR-RAN)
    • And various elements of the Dynamic Indicators of Basic Early Literacy Skills (Dibels) framework.

In 2021-2022 we identified 75 students as “At Risk or “At Some Risk”.  All 75 received “interventions for learning characteristics related to dyslexia” as reported on the annual IDOE Elementary Reading plans.  Building based RtI teams discussed all 75 and referrals were made to our School Psychologists for additional dyslexia screenings as warranted by those reviews.
