As part of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, Section 504 indicates that a child who “as a physical or mental impairment which substantially limits one or more of such person’s major life activities, has a record of such impairment, or is regarded as having such an impairment is considered to have a disability.”
Parents wishing to inquire about the 504 referral process should contact their child’s school and ask for the Section 504 Coordinator or contact the Director of Exceptional Learners at 852-5726.
NOTICE TO OUR SCHOOL COMMUNITY
As Brownsburg Community School Corporation is committed to complying with the requirements in Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 and the Americans with Disabilities Act, we are also seeking information from adults with disabilities in our community.
•Do you have a physical or mental disability, and do you have a child enrolled in our school? We are responsible for providing you access to parent-teacher conferences and other school programs and activities.
•Are you or do you know of an individual with a disability who may attend a function in ourbuildings (i.e. graduation ceremony, music performance)? We would like to be aware of this in case there are physical barriers in accessing our buildings.
If you answered “yes” to either of the above questions, please contact the Section 504 Coordinator at the appropriate school so that we may provide you access to our facility, programs, and activities. All inquiries will be kept confidential.
