additions to the building since it opened. Margory Rickman was the
original principal of Eagle. Eagle houses approximately 730 students in grade kindergarten through grade 5. There are five to six classes at every grade. Eagle has three Kindergarten classrooms in which students come on alternate days. There are self-contained classes for high ability students beginning with grade 2. In addition, there are self-contained classrooms for special education students and there is an additional special education resource program. Both special education classrooms serve students who have Individualized Education Plans. The Eagle School facility is well designed to meet the instructional needs of elementary school children. Every classroom has built-in storage cabinets for students' coats and supplies and for teaching materials. The building's courtyard design allows every classroom to have windows. The courtyard features a working sundial and attractive landscaping. In addition to the regular classrooms, the building has two computer labs, six portable laptop carts, a distance learning center, a interactive classroom which teaches Spanish, a science room, a music room, an art room, a media center, a cafeteria, and a gymnasium. A small stage is located between the cafeteria and the gymnasium. Folding walls on both sides of the stage allow the stage to face the gymnasium for large audience seating or face the cafeteria for small audience seating. The Brownsburg Junior Basketball League uses the gym for its evening basketball program. The school grounds include a separate kindergarten playground, a larger general playground, and a fitness trail that also serves White Lick School. There is a large retention pond, which is being developed as an outdoor education area. Visitor parking, staff parking, and bus parking are designed for safe traffic flow. Eagle School uses the Brownsburg Community School Program Plans as the basis for curriculum in all subject areas. These Program Plans were designed by the Brownsburg teachers and are based upon the Indiana State Department of Education State Standards. Curriculum Program Plans may be accessed online. Eagle students have consistently received high scores on standardized achievement tests. Eagle has been recognized as a FOUR STAR SCHOOL by the Indiana Department of Education every year that it has been eligible. This recognition is given annually to a school that scores in the top 25% of all Indiana schools in each of four areas: overall students' attendance, students' achievement test scores in language arts, students' achievement test scores in mathematics, and students' overall achievement test scores. The Eagle School teachers are a mix of beginning and veteran teachers. Each year, two or three new teachers join the staff. Many Eagle students have attended only Eagle School or one of the other Brownsburg elementary schools. The recent growth in Brownsburg is now providing an influx of new students. Parent support of Eagle School is outstanding. There is a very active PSG (Parent Support Group) that sponsors a wide variety of activities to support Eagle students. All parents and teachers belong to Eagle PSG. The PSG has a business meeting once every month to select and plan projects.
